On the Bukit peninsula at the southern extremity of the island, south of Jimbaran and the airport. The temple and the surf breaks are on opposite sides of the peninsula from each other.

What Uluwatu / Bingin is actually like

It is the most dramatic landscape in south Bali and the most spread out. The area is a set of separate pockets along the clifftops and the coves below them, connected by long, fast roads rather than by anything you can walk.

Getting around, and what to plan for

Everything here is further apart than it looks, and the roads run along the top of the plateau, so a destination that is a short distance away as the crow flies can involve a long loop. The clifftop access involves real steps and steep sections at many points.
